10 Must Do Activities for an Endless Summer in Byron Bay

Written by The Surf House on .

Hear from Rebecca Ellie, sharing her top 10 must do activities in her (now) hometown of Byron Bay.

“Every day, I feel so lucky to call Byron Bay home. After a year and a half here, these are my top recommendations for making the most of your time in this special place!”

10 Must Do Activities in Byron Bay for an Endless Summer

1. Explore Byron’s Beautiful Beaches

Wategos Beach is one of my absolute favourites – tucked beneath the lighthouse, it’s the perfect spot to watch surfers, soak up the sun, and maybe even spot some dolphins. Other must-visit beaches include Tallow Beach for its wild beauty and The Pass for incredible surf and sunrise views.

2. Walk to the Cape Byron Lighthouse

The lighthouse walk is a must-do, offering panoramic views of the coastline and a chance to spot marine life from above. Start at The Pass car park and check the trees near the entrance – koalas are often spotted lounging in the branches!

3. Ride the Byron Bay Solar Train

Hop on the world’s first solar-powered train for a quick and scenic ride to the Byron Bay Industrial Estate. Once there, explore vintage stores, op shops, cafes, and the Stone & Wood Brewery. Mr. Vintage is a great spot for unique finds – I got a pair of Levi’s shorts there that I wear all the time! ‘Folk’ is a super cute cafe to stop at for some delicious and healthy food.

4. Dine at Treehouse

Treehouse is one of my favourite spots in Byron Bay, offering a relaxed, tropical vibe with incredible wood-fired pizzas, cocktails and live music! It’s a little tucked away but only steps from the beach, making it feel like a hidden gem.

5.Join a Matcha Mermaids Byron Bay Event or Meetup

Every Thursday morning, Matcha Mermaids hosts a free walk and morning dip to help women in the area connect and make new friends. It’s a welcoming space to meet like-minded people while enjoying the ocean and starting the day on a refreshing note. Check out @matchamermaidsbyronbay on Instagram and Facebook for updates on upcoming meetups and events!

6. Chase Waterfalls in the Hinterland

When it comes to visiting local waterfalls, Minyon Falls is my top pick, featuring a breathtaking lookout and a 3–4 hour return hike through lush rainforest. If you’d rather skip the hike, the viewpoint alone is worth the visit. Another popular waterfall a bit closer to Byron Bay is Killen Falls!

7. Stay at The Surf House

Located in the heart of Byron, The Surf House is a beautiful accommodation just steps from Main Beach. They offer free surf board hire and daily guest must do activities, making it the perfect place to meet fellow travellers.

8. Start Your Day with Yoga at Surf House

With weekly yoga classes suitable for all levels, The Surf House helps you ease into the Byron lifestyle. It’s a great way to start the day feeling stretched and relaxed.

9. Enjoy Drinks at the Surf House Rooftop Bar

This rooftop bar is one of Byron’s best-kept secrets, offering a relaxed atmosphere with a pool table. Grab a cocktail, unwind, and take in the sunset with your new friends.

10. Have Breakfast at The Farm

Just a 10-minute drive from town, The Farm is a beautiful spot to start your morning with fresh food, pastries and scenic surroundings. Wander through the gardens, meet the animals, and enjoy a slow morning in nature.

ABOUT BECCA

Becca is 26 years old and is from Sweden & England. She went on her first ever backpacking trip in 2019 and fell in love with traveling and hasn’t looked back since. In 2020 she booked a one way flight to Australia for what she thought was going to be a 3 month trip before deciding what she wanted to study. That three-month trip turned into five years, and she has no plans to leave anytime soon!

Since then, she’s travelled around Australia in a van with her boyfriend, living in different places along the way. Her goal is to inspire others to take the leap, step out of their comfort zones, and explore the world. She now lives in Byron Bay with her partner and runs @matchamermaidsbyronbay with her friend – a group for likeminded women to find new friends go for sunrise dips, connect, get crafty and go on adventures.
