The best bars in Byron for dreamy drinks

Written by The Surf House on .

Between all the sun and surf, there’s one other item high on our agenda in Byron: cocktail hour.

Developing into a foodie paradise, there’s more than enough options when it comes to where to eat and drink in Byron Bay. We don’t know if it’s the balmy afternoon air, or the town’s total chill-factor, but there’s something about the bars in Byron. Their drinks are simply wonderful.

Thirsty?

Below, are five of the best bars in Byron Bay for dreamy drinks. Whether you’re away with the girls, as a couple, or a singleton with a love for a good cocktail – this guide is for you!

Light Years

Three lads from Melbourne have made it their mission to bring delicious cocktails and a ‘jump out of your seat’ party vibe to the heart of Byron. And boy, have they delivered. Light Years is a retro-fitted Vietnamese restaurant and cocktail bar, with an absolutely killer soundtrack. High vibes are a pumpin’ and their drinks are deliciously tempting.

Our pick: The Netflix & Chill – popcorn-infused spiced rum, macadamia liqueur, passionfruit, lemon and acquafaba.

The Mez Club

Did coronavirus cancel your European getaway? Should you be basking under the Mediterranean sun right now? A night at the Mez Club, and trust us: that overseas trip is all but forgotten. The Mez Club is a sensory experience, which will transport you across Europe, Morocco and the Middle East. While soaking up the dreamy setting and indulging in shareable mezze-style dishes, cast your attention to their signature cocktails. The list is long and lovely and let’s not waste another minute: it’s cocktail o’clock and The Mez Club is waiting.

Our pick: The Pink Flamingo – blood orange gin, Aperol, lemon, acquafaba.

Loft

A short wander from the sand and surf of Byron’s Main Beach, is where you’ll find Loft. Along with their good selection of local + international wines and long list of spirits, is the classic-meets-innovative cocktail menu. Let the Lychee Chilli Coconut Martini tickle your tastebuds or perhaps explore the Purple Haze Martini instead. Whichever you choose, you’re in for a good night.

Our pick: Night Bloom – cherry blossom-infused Brookie’s Dry Gin, white chocolate, raspberry, lemon.

Bang Bang

Yes, the food is what you first might have come to Bang Bang for. But reach the bangin’ drinks menu, and you’ll soon be awash with some of Byron’s best drink concoctions. Not drinking? Fear not! Bang Bang has two non-alcoholic cocktails on the list. And these mocktails are every bit as fancy and fabulous as their boozy counterparts.

Our pick: Miyagi’s Margi – jalapeno-infused tequila, coriander, agave, fresh lime, with a paprika chilli salt rim.

The Balcony

Mere footsteps from our doors at The Surf House is Balcony Bar. This is your Hamptons-style hideaway, an institution in Byron Bay. With a wine list that is wonderfully varied, a huge range of local beers and brews, and a cocktail list that screams ‘holiday mode: on”, we promise you won’t go wrong here.

Our pick: Frozen Mango Pina Colada – rum, mango, desiccated coconut, malibu, pineapple.

The Surf House

Excuse the humble brag, but how could we not considering we’re the home of Byron Bay’s only rooftop bar? Join us at The Rooftop Bar at The Surf House for good vibes and happy hour every day from 3pm. Golden hour never looked so good.
