Written by The Surf House on .

If your Insta feed is drowning in enviable Euro spam and spritzes while your feet are grounded in Australia, then may we recommend the ideal antidote: Byron Bay. Park yourself at one of Byron’s most boujee bars and restaurants, float away in fabulous seaside attire, and wash away the jealousy.

For a taste of la dolce vita without leaving Australia, simply take your pick from our list of both new and long-loved drink and dining experiences, below.

1. Raes

Within Raes’ Greece-worthy white walls is a relaxed yet refined Cellar Bar and Restaurant that oozes with holiday energy. The interiors and decor are every bit as inviting as the Mediterranean-meets-Australian menu. Add a drink to your hand, and you’re all set.

To drink: Jungle Bird (plantation pineapple rum, campari, passionfruit, lime, vanilla).

To eat: Crostini sourdough with smoked anchovy, charred tomato puttanesca, pickled onion; Oysters with finger lime and anise myrtle.

2. Belongil Beach Italian Food

Newly opened, this fun-filled Italian restaurant will have you ‘that’s amore’ing’ from the moment you arrive. It’s high on energy, big on flavour and aesthetically wonderful. Even better, they offer Aperitivo Hour with beach snacks and $5 Camparis and Aperols. We could go on, but there’s a chilled glass of vacay vibes waiting. Ciao!

To drink: Romeo Lane (limoncello, basil soda, pink salt).

To eat: Linguini, morton bay bug, cherry tomatoes, lemon thyme butter and pistachio.

3. The Hut

For a delightful daydream to the Med, The Hut is your spot. Enjoy a luxuriously long lunch of shared plates and cocktails, while taking in a perfectly paired back interior of high ceilings and natural light aplenty. The Hut is a 20-minute drive from Byron’s town centre and is reason enough to hire a car, so take advantage of The Surf House’s onsite car parking.

To drink: Santorini Spritz (ouzo of plomari, prosecco, soda, lemon, mint).

To eat: Spaghetti alla chitarra, spanner crab, smoked butter.

4. Surf House Rooftop Bar

Inspired by old-school Byron surf culture, a boujee bev at The Surf House Rooftop Bar is the vintage vacation cure you didn’t know you needed. Revel in the sundrenched details, where each wall is adorned with surf-inspired trinkets from around the globe. As the sun sets into the twilight zone and you find yourself under the balmy skies of Byron, the cocktails taste even sweeter. The Rooftop Bar is exclusive to guests of The Surf House.

To drink: Byron Fling (mac. gin by brookie’s, passionfruit, soda water, lime).

To eat: Take advantage of The Surf House’s pizza night specials.

5. Supernatural

There’s a slice of Paris by the sea in Byron, and it’s called Supernatural. Here, your high-class cocktails are built with pizazz and presented with cinematic elegance. Indulge in share plates amongst a high-vibin’ atmosphere, and it won’t take long before you feel that joie de vivre wash over you.

To drink: Bush Margarita (corazon tequila, agave, fresh lime, lemon myrtle, sea salt, pepperleaf).

To eat: Pink tempura cauliflower, romesco, local cashew cheese, almonds, hazelnuts.

6. Cape Byron Distillery

For those that fancy their drinks amongst 30-acres of regenerated subtropical rainforest, you’re in luck. Home to Brookie’s gin, Cape Byron Distillery is one of Byron’s most lush settings for a cocktail at one of their Cocktail Sessions. Sip away on a balcony that’s nestled amongst sprawling trees and wildlife, away from the crowds. Equal in delight are the selection of seasonally-crafted cocktails. An unmissable experience.

To drink: Purple Rain (Brookie’s Dry Gin, creme de violette, watermelon syrup, fresh lime, aquafaba)

7. Beach Byron Bay

Whether for a long lunch or sunset dinner, make a toast to your holiday with front row views overlooking Clarkes Beach and The Pass. Beach Byron Bay is a space to treat yourself to a slice of luxe holiday living. The drinks list is as long as the food menu is wonderful; both of which pair perfectly with the postcard-worthy views.
