One of the beauties of staying in Byron Bay is that you don’t need to go far to find some incredible restaurants. In fact, everything you’ll need is within walking distance from Byron town – and The Surf House đ Whether you’re walking to the beach, browsing around some of Byron Bay’s boutique shops, or stopping off for lunch and a few drinks, you’ll come across some world-class food options here that you can enjoy on a budget.
Insider tip: Byron is a mecca for street musicians, so wherever you go in town youâll likely come across some good live music to enjoy!
Cheap Eats & Deals In Byron Bay
1. No Bones
Where: 11 Fletcher St – Just over the road from The Surf House.
Cuisine & Style: Vegan delights in a tapas-style setting
For Vegans and meat-eaters alike, No Bones is amazing. Serving up Vegan food like no other, they’ve truly made a name for themselves in Byron and beyond. Enjoy their butter ‘chicken’ or wings, and their tasty cocktails. They have a happy hour from 5-6pm every day, and occasionally have live music. If you’re travelling in a group, just ask their staff for recommendations (more recommendations for group dining, here) and enjoy a group tasting. Their menu is served in tapas-style, so you can try it all – deeelish.
2. Chihuahua Taqueria
Where: Feros Arcade, 12/26 Jonson St – 220m, 3 mins from The Surf House
Cuisine & Style: Market and Street-style Mexican
Recommended by Latinos as one of the best Mexican places in Byron, Chihuahua Taqueria is the place to go to get your taco fix! Set in a very casual but secluded sitting area in Feros Arcade, in town, you’ll find Mexican treats galore at very affordable prices. Tuck into tacos, nachos and daily specials and BYO drinks.
3. Street Sushi
Where: Cavanbah Arcade, Shop/4/4 Jonson St – 300, 3 mins from The Surf House
Cuisine & Style: Sushi (Takeaway)
Hidden in Cavanbah Arcade in the middle of town, Street Sushi is our favourite quick (and cheap) sushi takeaway. If you’re staying at The Surf House, grab a free surfboard from reception, have your morning sesh, and then walk straight to Street sushi for a super fresh post-surf treat. Vegan and veggie options are available.
4. Elixiba
Where: Feros Arcade, 10/23 Jonson St – 230m, 3 mins from The Surf House
Cuisine & Style: Plant-based
Plant-based & Alchemy bar located in Feros Arcade in town offers unique creations & herbal infused drinks, and with a very chilled atmosphere makes for the perfect place for a healthy healing meal and a chilled and relaxed dining experience.
Top tip: On the last Wednesday of the month, Elixba run a âpay what you wantâ day – their way of giving back to the local community. Order what you need and pay what you want!
5. Main Street Burger Bar
Where: 18 Jonson St – 250m, 1 min from The Surf House
Cuisine & Style: Delicious Burgers & Boutique brews!
We love this place! One of the best burger joints in Byron, Main Street Burger Bar serves up delicious burgers (and amazing fries!), good tunes and daily happy hour. Happy Hour runs from 3-5pm every day and includes beer, wine and margaritas. The cheeseburger and jackfruit burger are a must-try!
6. The Surf House Rooftop Bar
Where: 23 Lawson St
Cuisine & Style: Pizzas, Bar Snacks, local brews & cocktails.
The first rooftop bar in Byron, in the heart of town, The Surf House Rooftop bar offers tasty food, delicious cocktails, super cheap drinks and a great sunset vibe just a quick stroll fromâŚwellâŚyour bed!
Tuck into pizzas for just $12 a pop (vegan & veggie options available) and enjoy daily food and drink specials like $5 lagers, $10 espresso martinis, $10 spritz, $6 pizzas, and more.
Open from 3pm every day come for the arvo bevvies (happy hour is from 3-6pm) and stay for the social events including a ‘Killer pool comp’ on Wednesdays.
The rooftop bar is decked out with quirky and nostalgic surf-inspired decor and memorabilia as well as a pool table, outdoor and indoor areas. Our little secret? You get a free drink on arrival when you stay at the Surf House.
7. Orgasmic Falafel
Where: 11 Bay Ln, 140m, 2 mins from The Surf House
Cuisine & Style: Mediterranean delights – Casual dining & takeaway
Orgasmic Falafel is well known within our community as home to some of the best falafel in town! Choose from platters, pita pockets, wraps and small falafel snacks. Walk to this hidden venue on Bay Ln, just back from Main Beach, and have your orgasmic treat for lunch or dinner. Or anytime really…thereâs no limit when it comes to falafel!
8. Success Thai Food
Where: 3/31 Lawson St – 130m, 1 min from The Surf House
Cuisine & Style: Thai food – Dine-in and takeaway
Just a 1-minute walk from the main shops in Byron town on Lawson Street, Success Thai Food serves up some of the best of Thai in Byron. It’s usually pretty busy so if you can’t grab a seat, donât miss their takeaway options – trust us, it wonât disappoint!
